Prostate Massage Beginners Guide

Once considered taboo, anal play is now enjoyed by many men regardless of their sexual orientation.  In 2018 many straight men are now exploring the pleasure of prostate massage.

So if you are just curious or have decided to learn more about the joys and benefits of prostate massage you are in the right place. So let’s jump in and start with the basics of what the prostate gland is and how to massage it.

What is the prostate?

prostate gland

The prostate is a small walnut shaped gland that is part of the male reproductive system. It is located just below your bladder in front of your rectum area.

The prostate secretes prostate fluid which is a component of semen.  The prostate also helps propel the seminal fluid into the urethra when you ejaculate.

What is prostate massage?

Quite simply prostate massage is the massage or stimulation of the prostate gland for sexual pleasure and to achieve orgasm.  The prostate is commonly referred to as the male g spot and prostate stimulation can help with erection hardness and can greatly intensify your orgasm.

It can be performed during solo masturbation or as part of sex with your partner.  You can massage your prostate by using your finger, sex toys or anal sex.

How to use a prostate massager?

The good news is that once you insert a prostate massager the rest is pretty self explanatory.  You want to make sure you use enough lube on whatever toy you use or finger if that is your preference.  I enjoy sitting in a chair and leaning back.  Other people like to lie on their side with their knees pulled in towards their stomach.  Others enjoy laying on their stomach.  I recommend experimenting with all different positions to find what works best for you.

Insert your toy of choice slowly and relax and breathe slowly and deeply.  Once the toy if fully inserted you want to slowly clench your PC  (pelvic) muscles and release.  Try to imagine that you are peeing and then trying to stop the flow.  Those are the muscles that you want to use.  Keep doing this until the orgasms happen.  This can take anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour.  The key is to be patient.  Some people like to focus on having orgasms without penis stimulation.

I prefer to also include penis stimulation as the inserted prostate massager can greatly intensify the sensation of each stroke of your penis with your hand or male masturbator like a Fleshlight.

What is the best prostate massager?

Choosing the right massager comes down to personal preference and your level of experience.  Many of our readers prefer the njoy Pure Wand but most have a collection of several toys.  You can see many of the toys in my own personal collection below.

If you are just getting started I would recommend a smaller toy like the Aneros Helix Syn or your finger.  You just want to get comfortable with the idea of putting something in your butt for pleasure.  Don’t rush it and use plenty of lube.

Remember prostate massage is a journey of exploration so be patient and enjoy the ride!

Prostate massage can give you orgasms beyond what you ever imagined if done properly!  Always make sure that you are calm and relaxed before you begin and that you have at least 30-45 minutes.  I have found that it is good to get used to prostate massage by conducting several solo sessions before you engage in use with a partner.

For your first several sessions take things slow.

Get comfortable with the sensation of having a massager inserted in your body.  I also recommend starting out with one of the smaller massagers like the Aneros Helix to give your body time to adjust.  When it hits your prostate in just the “right way” you will know because you will feel a slight amount of pressure and a nice tingling/warm sensation.  When you get started try to be disciplined and not touch your penis.  This will help you focus on the new and unfamiliar sensation of anal and prostate play.

For hygienic purposes wash the prostate massager with warm, soapy water before and after each usage and make sure that you wash the anal region thoroughly before starting.  I have found that the best way to get clean is by using a bidet.  These are inexpensive, easy to use, quick and much less harsh than an enema or even soap.

Lubricate, lubricate, lubricate! Apply adequate lubricant to the anal canal and to the entire massager.  This is very important especially for removal of the massager when you are done.  Over the years I have become much more health conscience  and so I now only use coconut oil as a lubricant.  It is 100% natural and I have no idea what the long term effects of the artificial lubricants are and since you will be putting this in your butt it will be quickly absorbed by your body.

Don’t’ rush. Slowly insert the massager, positioning the perineum tab (P-tab) to press against the area between the anus and the scrotum.

Also don’t get discouraged if prostate massage doesn’t do anything for you after your first few sessions.  It can take months to “rewire” your brain and body to respond to prostate massage.  But stay the course….trust me it will be worth it.  If feels so good that will be glad you stuck with it.

Experiment with positions that work best for you.

I have heard that many people have had success laying on their right side.  However I enjoy using the massager while sitting in a chair.  I position myself so that the massager hangs over the edge of the chair and I have easy access to tug on it lightly or to pull it out and replace with other massagers.

Relax (mentally and physically).  Allow your body to get used to the massager.  Practice deep breathing and release your tension.

Slowly begin to contract the sphincter muscles. The best way to explain this is to contract the muscles that you use to cut off the stream while urinating.  Increase frequency and intensity of the contractions at regular intervals.  I have also found that to intensify the sensations it helps to contract the anus tightly and then relax it but not fully.  Another technique that sometimes works is to do this while the massager is inserted about 3/4 of the way in.

Massages can either be used while stroking the penis or not.  I have heard that in order to achieve the Super O that you should not touch the penis but my best sessions have involved masturbating while the massager was inserted.  After several years I have not achieved the “Super O” but I do believe it exists and I have gotten close!

Like I said at the beginning, remember to be patient and enjoy the journey.  You are rewiring your brain and before you know it you will be experiencing mind-blowing orgasms that you never thought were possible.

Don’t be afraid to experiment and find out what feels the best for you.

I have found it very enjoyable to use several different massagers and butt plugs at increasingly larger sizes during the same session to achieve earth-shattering orgasms.  Right at the moment of climax try pulling or pushing out the massager or plug or tugging or twisting it slightly to take your orgasm to the next level.

Nothing feels quite like climaxing when you have a prostate massager inserted!  It is so intense and the feeling must be experienced!

You should also try massagers made of different materials since the various textures can really heighten and intensify the experience.  I enjoy alternating between stainless steel, glass, and silicone toys.  The cool hard sensation of stainless steel against the prostate as my muscles contract and pulsate around it is my favorite.
